ToutTerrain Singletrailer Bike Trailer

The Tout Terrain Singletrailer performed really well on singletrack and is super light at 21 lbs. The rear suspension worked really well once I figured out the sag. A psi guide for the trailer rider weights would have been nice as we wasted a lot of ride time as I kept bottoming out on the trail.

The interior is very well built and and easy to get the kids into. The harness buckle is awesome. It’s really easy to attach and release. The child’s harness straps are pretty thin so I put some padding on them for our test period. The seat in the trailer is fairly utilitarian but works well. Tout Terrain sent some side cushions that were a great addition to the minimalist design of the trailer’s interior.
When I test and install any carrier on my bike, I always let out all the air in my front and rear suspension to test the worst case scenarios. Of course I never want to be in those situations but want to make sure I’m prepared if anything happens.
Tout Terrain recommends installing the trailer on a full suspension bike. My current ride is a Santa Cruz Hightower LT with a Fall Line 200mm dropper post. It didn’t work with the beam attachment, the 29’ wheels on my bike and long dropper post. The beam hit my rear wheel and I couldn’t ride this bike with the trailer. I emailed Tout Terrain and they said they were aware that 29” wheels with longer dropper posts often did not work with the Singletrailer. If you do have a longer dropper-post with 27.5” or 29” wheels or you want one in the future, we would really suggest you make sure the trailer fits before you get excited about riding with one.
Apart from these minor headaches of fitting the trailer, our few months with the trailer was an absolute blast! It soaked up the bumps with ease. I regularly took it off small trail drops and jumps while looking back to notice the lack of head bobble from my kids and the smiles on their faces. The Tout Terrain Singletrailer is awesome and truly is in a league of it’s own.
In the future, we really hope that Tout Terrain redesigns the beam arm connector to accommodate longer travel 29” bike with larger dropper posts in the coming years.
Who would we suggest this trailer for? A bike dad or mom who wants to get out on actual singletrack mountain bike rides with a single kid or if you have two kids, put one in the trailer and one on a Macride. If you can budget in the $1500USD, it’s worth it. If you want to save your sanity and hit the trails when the kids are younger, this Singletrailer may fit your bill. Check out their website- and if you are in North America give BIKE BIKE a call to order a trailer.

Thanks to Tout Terrain for the demo trailer they lent us for this review.

    Hello,
I just purchase it and i’m struggle with the SAG for my child 10 kg (23lbs)
My Singletrailer come with a SR Suntour Raidon R.
SR and ToutTerrain recommend 40psi but it correspond to weight load of 50kg (110lbs)

What pressure and SAG did you test ?
Which shocks do you have on your Singletrailer ?

I plan to test with a Rockshocks model that seems have more fine tuning like 1psi for 1lbs.

    Hi Jack,

Thanks for the review of the Tout-Terrain single trailer. I ride a Santa Cruz Tallboy 29er with a 170mm dropper post so your review is especially relevant to me. Do you know if Tout-terrain have made any adjustments to the design since your review to accommodate the dropper posts on these bikes? What type of bike did you use it on instead? I do have an old 26 inch full suspension bike that doesn’t have a dropper but was going to sell it to help fund the child trailer!

    Many thanks,

    James
