RAMPS AND JUMPS

Teach a kid to Jump...teach a kid to bike. Learning transition and how to maneuver a bike in the air is a must for future MTB'ers. Get a kid comfortable jumping and you will be on the trails blasting doubles and drops by age 5 or 6 if you put in the time in the front yard, driveway or back alley with a good ramp. Yes, you can always build something out of wood if you have the time but keep in mind wood weathers and the price of materials can be high for the use you get out of it.

Landwave Starter Kit

Made for skateboarding but just as good for bikes, these lego-like ramps can be stacked and built upon each other. The starter kits gets any balance bike and biker through ages 3-7 having fun! Want to go higher and farther? Start adding on block by block.

MTB Hopper Lite

The smallest ramp in the portable MTB Hopper series, the Lite still can boost a kid or adult into the stratosphere...just ask Sam Pilgrim. The idea with this one is to find a nice grass transition lander around the neighborhood.

MSRP: $389 US | Where to buy: Amazon

Freshpark Quarter

Put two of these quarters together for a great driveway kicker (mind the gap) for the advanced kiddo! Pull them apart facing each other and create a mini-ramp. Pricey but will hold up as they are a solid metal and urethane build. Measures 47 x 33 x 10 inches.

I tried this Elevate Outdoor wave ramp. It’s built like the plastic car ramps you use to change your cars oil. Quality is good, but the breakover is a bit too aggressive for most bikes wheelbase if you’re just going to roll over it – you’ll hit your chainring. I tried this a on a Giant XTC 24, A Riprock 24, and a Epic Evo adult bike. The other issue was that the other pieces in the series are all differently sized, so you can’t mix and match. Otherwise, its a good neighborhood skate/scooter/sledding ramp.
