Specialized Turbo Levo SL Kids eBike Review: Mini Shredder, Maximum Fun
Mindfully designed for young athletes, the new Turbo Levo SL Kids electric bike combines the best of both worlds for enthusiastic guardians and budding riders. With a powered Specialized 1.2 motor, long battery life, configurable speed and assist limits, and a lightweight design, this bike turns the road less traveled into a kid-friendly adventure. The only real challenge? Parents keeping up with their young shredders.

Capability: Light, Fast, and Built for Adventure
At just 36.6 pounds, the Turbo Levo SL Kids feels nimble and a reasonable weight considering the bike has a motor a good sized battery. With a trusted motor delivering up to 50Nm of torque and 320 watts of power, kids can confidently climb, descend, and explore all day long. While younger riders may find themselves keeping up with their parents, more experienced kids might just find themselves leading the pack if their Parents are on regular bikes.

Amplification: Seamless Power, Endless Fun
The Turbo Operating System (OS) lies at the heart of this bike’s experience. Designed to amplify a child’s pedaling effort, it doubles their energy so seamlessly that it feels natural—just faster. Beyond power and range, the Turbo OS offers advanced tools:
- Monitors motor and battery health.
- Tracks ride data to improve performance.
- Includes over-the-air updates via the MasterMind TCU.
With MicroTune, parents can adjust power output in real-time to manage range and tailor the ride to their child’s ability. It’s a bike that evolves alongside its rider, offering a smoother, smarter riding experience every time. Think of this like a governor or a boost button. Keep in mind the bike is quite slow in comparison to regular powered adult ebikes even when the Levo SL 24" is in Turbo mode.

Kid-Friendly Design: Confidence Meets Capability
y detail of the Turbo Levo SL Kids has been designed with young riders in mind. Its geometry ensures a comfortable and long-term fit for growing kids, while thoughtful features like a 603mm standover height and a short-travel dropper post allow for confident handling and enhanced descending capabilities. As always, Specialized does a great job with the touch point ergonomics of bike- the seat, grips and handlebar diameter and stem length are excellent.
Key components include:
- RockShox Reba 100mm Air Fork for plush front suspension.
- SRAM NX 11-speed drivetrain for versatile shifting.
- 24” x 2.35” Ground Control tires for grip and plushness on varied terrain.
SRAM Level T hydraulic disc brakes with adjustable levers for optimal control.

Specialized App and MasterMind: Customize the Ride
Parents will appreciate the level of control offered by the Specialized app and MasterMind TCU. With customizable speed and power settings, parents can gradually increase support as kids build confidence. Two speed limits are available: 10 mph for younger or less experienced riders and 15.5 mph for older kids ready to push their limits. This feature ensures safety while providing a tailored experience for different skill levels.

Range: Ride Anywhere, Longer
The 320Wh battery, borrowed from the last generation adult Levo SL, delivers impressive range for smaller riders. On Eco mode, the bike’s range extends significantly, providing plenty of juice for all-day rides. The bike is perfect for parents riding regular mountain bikes, as the assist gives kids enough power to match their pace without excessive acceleration.
However, when parents are also on e-bikes, the 15.5 mph speed limiter can feel restrictive (you can also put the 10mph limiter on for tentative kids). We found the best setup was for parents to ride traditional bikes while the kids used the Turbo Levo SL—it keeps the experience fun and balanced. No more towing or kids complaining about the uphills, you just need to put the work in to catch up to them for once.

Performance: Fun with a Few Quirks
On the trail, the Turbo Levo SL Kids is a joy to ride. Its lightweight design and balanced geometry make it nimble in tight corners and stable on technical terrain. The power assist feels smooth and natural, encouraging kids to explore without being overwhelmed.
That said, we did notice a few quirks:
- The RockShox Reba fork tops out at times, creating a clunky sensation on repetitive hits.
- The 155mm crank length is simply too long for a 24” bike. There are lots of aftermarket ebike cranks that work with the Levo Sl. we would love to see a 140- 145mm spec’d on this little adventure machine
Despite these minor issues, the overall experience remains outstanding.

Safety and Regulations: A Word to the Wise
Before purchasing, ensure you understand local laws regarding e-bikes, especially age restrictions. Practice riding in controlled environments before hitting the single track.
Final Thoughts: Kid-Focused, Family-Friendly
The Specialized Turbo Levo SL Kids is a thoughtfully designed, premium e-bike that enables kids to explore trails like never before. From its lightweight frame to its advanced motor and customizable controls, it’s a serious trail machine that doesn’t skimp on performance.
While the $3000 USD ($4,800 CDN) price tag is steep, it’s a worthy investment for families that prioritize outdoor adventures. With its capability, customization, and kid-friendly design, it ensures that everyone can share the thrill of the trail.
Pros:
- Lightweight and easy to handle
- Smooth, natural power assist
- Advanced customization with MasterMind and Specialized app
- Perfect for mixed rides with parents on regular bikes
Cons:
- Premium price point
- Fork top-out and crank length quirks
- Speed limiter feels restrictive for e-bike families
- Cranks should be shortened
- Its a hardtail and some kids will be begging for a full suspension like Mom and Dad probably have…
