The Bike Dads' Take:
"This is a specific purpose run bike. Super light, short chain stays and super wide/meaty 2.5 inch tires make this an absolute off road machine. The 14 inch diameter tires make for a fast rolling bike as well compared to standard 12 inch tire bikes. A wider bar and rear brake would make this bike even better for the terrain for which it was built. We swapped out the bar (see title image) resulting in a much more stable ride. Have a little shredder aged 3-6 that spends all their time on dirt, in the bike park or on single track? This is a bike for them. Dump the tire pressure and let er rip! Spend more time on pavement? Early Rider makes the standard Trail Runner which ships with narrower tires. " -Colin
Hi, thanks for the review! I’ve got a pretty big 3 year old girl. Just turned 3 and she’s 41″ tall and 40 lbs, 17″ inseam. We’ve moved out to the country so she’s mostly on gravel and dirt. I want to get her something with larger wheels due to the more difficult surfaces. She’s not an aggressive rider, I’m just looking for the easiest rolling and most comfortable (in terms of bumps) ride for her. Do you think the regular or XL tire version of this bike would be best suited? I’m leaning XL unless you think those tires are more work to ride through grass or gravel, etc.
Great idea for a website, i wish i’d found it when i was trying a bunch of different ways to pack her with me on my mt bike. I never really did figure out anything truly satisfactory for that…
Hi Troy, the XL Kenda tires are really grippy! We ran them low pressure and they were super comfortable as they acted like suspension. You give up a little on rolling resistance over the standard tires but traction is guaranteed. I’de go XL if using primarily off road and standard for pavement and light trail use. Cheers, Colin
