I have a work bench. It has a vise and is full of tools. Their is a lot of WD 40 on its shelf. Between my engineer Dad and carpenter/architect father-in-law I have received a bottle of said WD40 for Christmas the last four years. No bottle has ever been sprayed.
I am not a handy guy but I can throw something together when motivated. A visit to a friends house, who is a few years ahead of me in the bike dad world, left me full of bike storage envy and motivation. I had been storing my little guys bikes as I did my own bike. This method (pictured) is great for adult usage but throw a 4 year old into the mix and things get scratched and nicked.
The Solution was easy and allows for even my two year old to get his balance bike in and out of storage with a sense of pride and responsibility. A trip to Home Depot, a 8 ft 2×4 and $4.95 later, I had all I needed for my rack (I had some old deck screws laying around in previously mentioned work bench). You simply cut stringers to length with spacing between handlebars in mind in addition to the number of bikes to store (I only needed 2 bikes). Affix the rails with screws making sure to keep enough width for desired bike tire. Voila, the 5 buck bike storage solution.
